About Freshpet

In 2005, Freshpet® was started by a group of pet food experts and animal lovers. We realized that something was missing in pet food - a fresh, meat-based diet, one that nature intended for dogs. Working with veterinarians, scientists and nutritionists, we set out to create the healthiest and most nutritious pet food.

The Difference in Fresh Food

Each of our recipes starts with fresh high quality meats (chicken, turkey, beef, or lamb), liver and eggs locally sourced from the United States. Then, we carefully select additional ingredients for their specific nutritional benefits, such as peas, carrots and whole grains to promote digestive health and blueberries, cranberries, and pomegranates for antioxidant support.

We gently cook the food to preserve the essential vitamins and nutrients then immediately refrigerate our products to preserve their freshness. Our foods undergo 1/3 of the processing that dry and canned products do to extend shelf life to up to two years.

Freshpet makes a variety of fresh refrigerated food for both cats and dogs. Our preservative-free food is only found in refrigerated cases - where fresh meat belongs. Freshpet foods are found in the dog food aisle refrigerator at select grocery and pet stores.

Freshpet Foundation

The Freshpet Foundation believes that good nutrition leads to a healthier life for our companion animals and that more research is needed in the role nutrition plays in the prevention and treatment of disease. We are committed to improving the knowledge base around cancer and other diseases in dogs by engaging in the following:

  • Raise awareness of canine diseases, specifically cancer, among pet parents through education.
  • Raise funds for comparison studies and clinical trials through events such as Bark for the Cure and other promotional events nationwide.
  • Further canine cancer prevention and treatment through actionable research
